DownEast Maine offers a rich variety of outdoor recreation opportunities. While most of these remarkable lands are privately owned, nonprofit land trusts conserve them— and make them open and accessible for all.

Did you know? Each preserve is unique, but they all have ecological and community values that evolve over time and require ongoing care. Land trusts don’ t do this work alone! Protecting lands that benefit people, plants and animals requires land trusts to work with many others— including landowners, towns, community members, Wabanaki Nations, marine harvesters, fishers, hunters, foresters and neighbors.
