INSPIRATION 1970’s WEDDING STYLING Written by Kate Cullen of www.katecullen.co.uk 70’s Wedding There are many different styles to choose from the 1970s; from festival hippy to glam disco and everything in between. Here are a few ideas from these styles – I quite like the idea of mixing it up together for a modern twist. Tipis and meadow flowers juxtaposed with bright pops of colour, fun cocktails and some disco tunes! Decor: If you’re going for a relaxed festival vibe then tipis and on-site camping for your guests is a must. Decorate with lots of rustic flower garlands, jam jars and tealights. If disco is more your thing then bright neon lights and an LED dancefloor is a fantastic choice. Hire some Polaroid cameras too – you can make an album of the images on your return from honeymoon. Food and drink: Enjoy buffet style snacks (pineapple and cheese sticks anyone?!) and a bar stocked with all the ingredients for some retro cocktails – Tequila Sunrises, Gin Ba Fizzes, Martinis and Babychams. Make sure you get some colourful g signa with ‘70s fonts signage to c complete the look. Co Consider hiring a camp van bar to camper really g in the spirit! get Favour Favours: CREDITS: Disco sign: thearchitecturalforum.com/vintage-retrom/vintage-retroustcallmegrace. disco-neonsign-78846.html. You could eve use them as a even clever sea seating plan. 6 Bridalwear: There are so many options from the 1970s – it was an eclectic era – from flared trousers, jumpsuits and floppy sun hats, to tailored suits and boho sleeved, crocheted dresses. This period has something for whatever style of bride you are. Go for big hair and dramatic eye make up to channel your inner Bardot or Farrah Fawcett! Stationery: There are some fabulous fonts from this era that can be carried throughout your stationery. Look to some original vintage wedding invitations for inspiration. Cake: A simple white tiered cake decorated with colourful flowers (either real or sugar ones) can have pride of place. Entertainment: Music is central to any festival or discothemed wedding – whatever you go for make sure your DJ or band has extensive experience of your more retro choices! Flowers: Lots of meadow flowers, grasses and foliage – don’t worry too much about a specific colour scheme – bright pops of flowers will work well together in a relaxed setting. Issue 5
