The county highway system is a 300-mile network of major collec-
tor arterial highways and more than 60 miles of bike facilities in Lake
County, operated by the Lake County Division of Transportation. These

highways are marked by pentagonal blue and gold Lake County route
markers and the bike paths by the route identifi cation sign incorporat-
ing the Lake County logo. The front of this section includes maps of the
county highway system and bike facilities. Daily travel on the system is
more than 3.5 million vehicle miles on 889 lane miles. This document
also provides background on how projects are included in the highway
improvement program.
Interrelation with Budget Development
By law, prior to July 1 of each year the 5-Year Highway Improvement
Program is prepared by the County Engineer. The annual program for
the subsequent fi scal year of the county (e.g. starting 12/1/2018) is
developed based upon an estimate from the county administrator’s
offi ce of the tax revenues to be allocated by the county board in the
