In his experiment, Pavlov used a bell as his neutral stimulus. Whenever he gave food to his dogs, he also rang a bell. After a number of repeats of this procedure, he tried the bell on its own. As you might expect, the bell on its own now caused an increase in salivation.
So the dog had learned an association between the bell and the food and a new behavior had been learnt. Because this response was learned (or conditioned), it is called a conditioned response. The neutral stimulus has become a conditioned stimulus.
For instance: as a child we often get a lot of attention, we are considered the little king/queen of our family. But things change when we grow up. In this process we learn to share, to give space and priority to the others as well, without falling into self doubt or losing self esteem.
The same happens when we received negative feed backs during our childhood. In growing up we should readjust the perception of ourselves through a work of self discovery which goes behind what we experienced in our original environment!
But this is not an easy work to do, because inspite of all the digging within, and the interesting discoveries we do about us, what we achieve through consciousness doesn't affect the body answer. Consciuousness relates to the dimension of the mind, and the body is not the mind!
In the body, in the liquid part of our cells, is memorised all our story. Therefore a psychological introspection will never succeed in liberating us from the echo of our past.
If we want to free us and learn to express what we really are, we must find a way to solve the bad experiences blocked in the memory of our cells.
I have been working on dis-ease all my life long. At first I was very enthousiastic about psychology and the incredible awareness you can achieve. But in the years I realised that the cathartic experience of an insight doesn't last long, after a while the old miseries come back again.
I decided to look for something more intense which could reach the subconscious part of ourselves where all the body memory are piled.
