Earlier this month, we were saddened by the news that hip-hop artist Sean Price has passed away. The news was delivered by DJ Premiere. As our tribute to him and his music, here are a few facts you may not have known about him:
1. He was a member of the duo Heltah Skeltah. Heltah Skeltah were part of the Brooklyn, New York collective Boot Camp Clik along with Black Moon member Buckshot, Smif-N-Wessun and O.G.C. members Starang Wondah, Top Dog, and Louieville Sluggah.
2. Sean Price was a team player. Not only was he a member of Heltah Skeltah , he was also a member of a group called Random Axe along with producer Black Milk and Guilty Simpson, an MC. They put out a self titled album in 2011 which featured a guest appearance by Danny Brown.
3. Price was once a judge on a Canadian tv show called The Ultimate MC along with Royce da 5’9″ and Pharoahe Monch.
4. Price contributed to Alchemist and Oh No’s latest album You Disgust Me, set for release August 14.
5. He was the self proclaimed "World's Brokest Rapper"
6. While with Heltah Skeltah he initially performed under the name Ruck.
7. Price released his first solo album, Monkey Barz, in 2005 on Duck Down Records. His latest album, Mic Tyson, was released in 2012.
8. After his death Sean Price's posthumous mixtape 'Songs in the Key of Price was released
9. He took a possible shot at Wale ("I don't parlay with a crew, nigga/I don't Wale with them new niggas.")
