What would you say has been the best or most memorable moment in your career so far?
Playing a 250+ sold-out show for my EP-release and having everyone sing along while I beatboxed 'drop it like it's hot'..
What are you working on currently, and what are some of your upcoming projects?
I'm working on completing my whole album with live funk/jazz musicians. As well as working on more collaborations with other producers/MC's. I'm also creating more content involving beatboxing with my music. I'm editing a few music videos (one of which will be part two of a trilogy from the EP 'Late Nights'). I'm also performing at the International Winnipeg Jazz Festival on June 14th.
What's 5 things your fans don't know about you?
1) My grandfather was a brilliant mathematician from NYC which resulted in my excellent math abilities.
2) Half my family is from New York and the other is from Winnipeg, Canada
3) I can impersonate Donald Duck (even including the voice in an upcoming song)
4) I'm very good at soccer, and a lot of other sports
5) I got my BSc. in Computer Science and Psychology when I turned 21
What makes you more unique than other artists?
I think those 5 things above make me more unique than most people. Beyond that though, I think the fact that I'm a talented beatboxer, writer, performer, musician, director, editor, and extremely positive person separates me from most other artists. I work incredibly hard and I'm extremely supportive of other artists. "Single seeds only grow to trees..." - Oddisee
What's one trait about yourself that you don't like?
I can be impatient
Who's someone you would like to work with in the industry, and why?
Andre 3000.. I could give 3000 reasons why haha
20Syl would be incredible to work with but I think Atmosphere or any mc/producer from Rhymesters would be the most realistic collaboration (it all seems like a dream to be able to collab with any of them though)
Reasons: all influential artists for me that I've spent years and years listening to, reading and digesting their knowledge, and I think it's helped shape who I am as a person. Therefore, a collaboration with any of them would be like working on something with family. The energy levels would be too good.
Who were some of your biggest influences that are in the same field you are in?
www.facebook.com/beatoxox or my twitter @adamflavin
20Syl
Atmosphere
Grieves
Logic
Chance the Rapper
Compare yourself to some one that is more established, who would that be and why? Atmosphere I think I compare myself to the most lyrically, while 20syl I could see myself being similar to, with the live band factor.
What made you want to get into the business?
I've always entertained people since I was kid. Always made noises and loved singing, beatboxing, and performing. My mother is a musician so I think it's in my blood. After I finished my first CD and heard a few songs on the local radio, I was hooked.
What is the most difficult thing you have had to endure in life or in the industry?
Musically: My first group was called Butter Pretzels and it was really tough when it ended. It was that point I realized how many hours I spent towards that group, and initially I felt like it had been a waste, but I've learned since it's all just steps in a bigger journey.
In my life: probably my grandparents passing away, or my health problem (I've had a kidney problem my whole life and it can be a pain to deal with periodically)
