Door County NewsPixels™ & Wish Books & Brochures PERRY'S CHERRY DINER BRAND FOR SALE | Page 4
What year was your
‘community’diner established? In our
family since 1972 and reestablished as
Perry’s Cherry in 1992.
Your place seemed so busy for so
long. How many people could you serve
on a busy day? That little diner with 38
seats served as many 500 people a day and
in the years before construction had
numerous summers with 60 days in a row or
more when the diner was on a wait. Great
tips were earned!
Dollars spent on local payroll since
our family owned it? About $2.6 Million as
of 2009 in that tiny little place (Never missed
one payroll in 38 years.)
Is it true that some said they hope
Perry was a better golfer then a cook?
Yes. Team Cherry, the great staff that was
Perry’s gets the credit for all the good food
and service provided over all those years.
You sold over a million milkshakes?
We did as a culmunitive total back in like
2006. We had reached a million milkshakes
sold a group and
each one made by
hand in our
proprietary
(consistent & fast)
way..
Did you use real
ice cream in your
milkshakes? We did. We used the best ice
cream and toppings to make our famous
milkshakes.
The family diner - was does that
mean? Well, we have been family focused
since we open. We served fresh Door County
air. One of the first in the region to go
smoke-free back in 1993, we also were
alcohol-free since the start and as part of
this opportunity involves a simple license I
intend on this staying a alcohol-free brand.
We have had a great kids menu with healthy
choices since like 1994.
The living wage? Perry’s team
designed a compensation plan in 1996 that
a Disney® exec. discovered and asked if
they could borrow and introduce to their
restaurant teams. It was designed to
motivate and keep stellar employees no
matter the position they held as part of the
team.
People say they dream about your
milkshakes? Yes, we have heard that many,
many times. Including a woman from Il. that
Perry ran into recently and had a crazy story
about dreaming of the Perry’s milkshakes.
What were your best sellers?
Milkshakes, wraps, greek salads, kids menu
items, burgers, smoothies, gyros, Cherry Pie,
soups, melt sandwiches, Special plates,. for
starters.
Is it true a child was named after the
diner? It is true. Vacationers, in memory of
the many diner experiences they enjoyed at
our place named one of their twin girls
Perry. Perry was humbled to find this out.
Did someone really break in and eat
your mom’s pie?
Yes that is true. Broken into numerous times
back in the day. And one time in particular
the thief couldn’t resist and ate Perry’s
mom’s whole banana cream pie leaving just
the empty pan and the crumbs on the
counter when he/she left.
