The movie mentioned before features themes such as hard work and the attire of the Amish, and in a twist of the story, the main female character comes up with the idea of introducing color into the Amish community in the way the members dress, and her idea, although initially rejected by the decision making body, is presented during a fashion show featuring colorful dresses which bring happiness into the lives of the members and is finally accepted.

Regarding the Amish reality shows, these are mainly focused on the Amish experiencing the outside world as in Breaking Amish or Amish in the City. However there is also a show about the Amish having a sort of underground governing body, similar to the mafia in the show The Amish Mafia. Naturally, the authenticity of Amish reality shows such as these, is highly questionable, as well as others’ pertaining to the genre. The most authentic picture one can get of the Amish from popular culture is one that is portrayed in documentaries, such as PBS’s The Amish.
