San Sebastián neighborhood
Located around the Hill of San Sebastián it is not only the
highest altitude area of the town but also the historical
origin of it. Through steep and narrow streets with typical
houses that keep the air and traditional taste of the past, we
can find the Church of San Sebastián that once hosted
meetings of the Mesta.
San Sebastian Church
Considered the first hermitage of the city it was built under the
patronage of the martyrs San Fabián and San Sebastián. Of
Romanesque architecture, it is made out of thick walls reinforced
with buttresses of choir stalls. From its staircase facing the west,
you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the Vega del
Guadiana and Medellin Castle. Its doomed roof and the Christ on
the high altar stand out. This church was considered parish in
1896.
Ethnographic Museum
Located in the well-known House of the Duke, "Casa del Conde"; this magnificent museum collects
among its 37 rooms more than 6,000 pieces of symbolic culture from Extremadura. A walk in the
museum evokes the memory of those who lived during that time and arouses the curiosity of young
people who want to learn about the customs and traditions of the past. The Tourist Information
Office is located inside the museum.
