Don Benito Located in the natural area of Vegas Altas del Guadiana in the province of Badajoz, our municipality is crossed by the rivers Guadámez, Ruecas, Ortigas and Burdalo. With a current population of more than 37,000 inhabitants and an area of 55,926 hectares, it is the third largest municipality in the province. Its subtropical climate, with an average temperature of 15.8º C is characterized by mild winters and hot and dry summers. It is considered the capital of the Vegas Altas del Guadiana, being surrounded by towns such as Villanueva de la Serena, Medellín, Orellana la Vieja or others, and for being at approximately an hour's drive of such important cities from Extremadura like Badajoz, Caceres, Merida, Trujillo and Guadalupe. Its geographical relief is predominated by flat areas in the center and north, while in the south hills with an altitude that ranges between 450 and 600 m dominate. Transportation Don Benito bus station is located in the north of the town and connects with the main cities of Extremadura like, Merida, Badajoz and Caceres as well as with the Autonomous Communities of Andalusia, Castile and Leon, Castile-La Mancha, Madrid, Basque Country, Levante and Catalonia. The Railway Station, located at the end of the Avenida de la Constitución, connects with Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia and can be used to transship in Ciudad Real for bonding with the AVE. For those wanting to travel by car, the A-5 motorway is the ideal choice.
