Paris – 1999, 2006
Paris – 1999, 2006 depicts people gathered outside the Palais Chaillot in Paris to witness the solar eclipse on
August 11,1999. They are wearing sunglasses to protect their eyes from the fading sunlight. A melancholic song by
Christoph van Huffel replaces the sounds of the street. Both sound and images suggest great silence and peace, and
an almost transcendent atmosphere. Suddenly it is dark, day has turns to night and the only light comes from public
lamps that seem themselves like little suns.
