RIYO, CENTRAL, PLAGES, 1999, 2001, 2001
Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster first began making films during her travels in Asia
and South America between 1999 and 2008, where she sought out places known
to her from cinema and literature. Her earliest and arguably most important films
are the loose trilogy Riyo (1999), Central (2001) and Plages (2001), which explore
fleeting moments of experience within the urban landscape These films are in the
collections of ARC/Musée d’art modern de la Ville de Paris, Fondation Louis Vuitton,
M+ Museum, FRAC Franche-Comté, and the Guggenheim Museum, among other
private collections.
