With Korbett Miller By Dr. Frank LoPinto I got two REALLY smart businessmen and school owners together and asked them to talk about school business systems...here’s some real good stuff folks...R.Reid - Editor Dr. Frank Lopinto interviews De-Mythify author and successful school owner Korbett Miller DFL: Please tell me about yourself and your martial arts background. KM: I’m a Jeet Kune Do instructor under James DeMile. I’m originally from Michigan and I was recruited out of college to help run one of his schools. I literally lived in the back of his school after I completed business school. I was his traveling instructor so I was running around the United States and I also travelled in Europe with him for a couple of years. 12 Dojo Nation • March 2015 I started my own school back in 1996. I’m also a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt under Saulo and Xande Ribeiro, as well as a proud member of their association. We teach a lot of kids in our program. I have a very manageable school. I’m an entrepreneur in other endeavors that I feel my school size makes it easier for me to impact my community through my martial arts training and my school. I like to keep it simple because I still like to train, compete and do jujitsu tournaments, and I like to be on the map. DFL: Tell me about your school- square footage, student count, income, and staffing. KM: My school has been in business since ’96. We have about 250 students who train there in about 3000 square feet. The area that I live in is a bedding community for Microsoft and
