The 13th UN Crime Congress held in Doha , Qatar in 2015 was a point of departure in the history of UN Crime Congresses . For the first time in the 60 years of the Crime Congress , the political declaration was used as a basis for the development of a unique initiative : the Global Programme for the Implementation for the Doha Declaration . Established in 2016 with the support of the State of Qatar , this UNODC Global Programme was set out to transform the policy directives contained in the Doha Declaration into concrete tangible realities , directly contributing to the implementation of SDGs 3 , 4 , 5 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 16 and 17 .
Since its inception the Global Programme has actively provided support to the development of operational , legislative and policyrelated work required by Member States to implement the Doha Declaration in four specific areas : Judicial Integrity , Prisoner Rehabilitation , Youth Crime Prevention through Sports , and the Education for Justice ( E4J ) initiative .
By using and promoting evidencebased and holistic approaches , the Global Programme has assisted countries to achieve a positive and sustainable impact on crime prevention , criminal justice , corruption prevention , and the rule of law . Indeed , to date , over 2.1 million people from more than 190 countries have been either directly or indirectly impacted by the Global Programme .
As the first Special Event of the Kyoto Crime Congress , this gathering will showcase how the Global Programme has gained significant traction in its implementation and achievements . By bringing together senior , highlevel panellists from Governments , the UN system and partner organizations , the event will explore the manner in which innovative practices have led to the promotion of the rule of law and justice across the globe as we contribute to the objectives of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda .
Join us as we share tangible stories and actions , including by beneficiaries of the work undertaken by the Global Programme , to showcase the results achieved around the world on the journey from Doha to Kyoto .
