Shelton. On Saturday, Ireland’s Ann Ingram selected the Borzoi GCh. Belisarius JP My Sassy Girl as BIS, shown by her
handler from Japan, Shota Hirai. Sunday’s winner — a repeat
from last year! — was the German Shorthaired Pointer GCh.
Vjk-Myst Garbonita’s California Journey, as usual handled
by co-breeder/owner Valerie Nunes Atkinson. Monday’s BIS
w as judged by John Palmer of Australia and saw the Borzoi,
Lucy, win yet again, now with her usual handler in the US,
Valerie Nunes-Atkinson. I am not sure if these wins were as
important to Valerie as Westminster in February, when she
won BIS with CJ while Shota was Reserve with Lucy, but it
must have been close.
Much is changing within Santa Barbara Kennel Club, always with an effort to make it a more enjoyable event. Some
of these changes — improvements! — will no doubt be unveiled at next year’s shows. It definitely is a unique weekend
that anyone who cares for the dog show world should make
an effort to attend! DIR
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Bo Bengtson made his first visit to
Santa Barbara Kennel Club in 1967, showing a Saluki. Ten
years later he was back at the show, judging an overflow
entry of more than 185 Whippets. In the 1980s he was
very involved in SBKC and is now a member once again.
