Through the eyes of a fashion
designer in the Ukraine

aterina Ivashinnikova is a young designer and stylist, who was born and
has lived all her life in the Ukraine,
(Odessa city). She has been painting
ever since she picked up her first pencil. At school she daydreamed of designing and
found it difficult to concentrate on her studies.
From an early age and throughout life, she has
been passionate in inventing new ideas, designing fashion and drawing portraits, sculpture and
singing. She was always very artistic. Kate was
unlucky however with the environment she grew
up with. She remained a caring person and close
to people she grew up with. Throughout her life,
she lived in fear of society because of misunderstanding of failure. Art was not a career society
promoted. When it seemed that whole world was
against her, her wonderful mother, like an angel,
was always near. She was the only person who
understood, keeping her focused and motivated.
She was always ready to do anything for the happiness of her child. It was due to her mother that
Kate managed to keep her belief and didn’t stop
dreaming. When Kate was fourteen, her parents
decided to send her to school with the art pias.
Here Kate finally felt comfortable, because the
atmosphere she was surrounded by flourished
with creativity, spontaneity and allowed freedom
to think as an individual.
She always knew her destiny was to design and
the fashion industry was perfect for her. It always
meant a constant revival of something new and
creative.
Katerina said:
“You know, it’s difficult to explain exactly the process of revival of the image. Its rarely that something or someone can inspire me. It doesn’t
depend on my mood or circumstances or location. In my head, from nowhere, I am presented
with an already finished picture, where I see everything to the smallest detail. Its like an internal
room with boundless ideas, where with a desire I
should just open the door. Often, even at night I
can not sleep with clear conscience until I sketch
the ideas. In my purse is a small notebook to
write my sudden thoughts, this is essential to not
forget anything.”
In addition to designing fashion, Kate is also interested in style, she brings a pleasure not only
the creation of the dress but also invents the
whole image: hairstyle, accessories, make-up and
the style of photography.
The views in Ukraine of the fashion industry compared to the rest of the world is very different.
In 2012 Katerina released a debut collection of
her designs at the Fashion Odessa Day, and in
2013 took on the engagement of Kiev shopping
festival. In September 2014 Katerina featured
in the magazine “Your Hair” and published the
hairdressing work of Katerina.
