If waiting at the airport for your plane to take off seems like more of a chore than a pleasure, you should check out this unique 5K run/walk and kids' "Take-off Trot" at O'Hare presented by the Chicago Department of Aviation and United Airlines.
With proceeds benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project serving military vets, it's a one-of-a kind opportunity to experience a day on a runway at one of the world's busiest airports. It's a fun event for the entire family that also includes a post-run/walk Community Day with entertainment, food and photo opportunities on the runway, and in front of a United airplane.
Special Notes: Take Off Trot
The Take Off Trot will include children ages 4-10 years and waves will be organized by age and gender. Wave categories will be based on the number of participants present on race day.
The Take Off Trot does not take place on the runway. Instead, it will start and finish in an area adjacent to the main site where registration and the main stage are located. All participants will have an opportunity to take pictures on the runway after the 5K run and Take Off Trot via on-site shuttle buses.
Registration includes a Youth Large short sleeve T-shirt.
