One-onOne with
Mr Nelson Mutanda
On why Kenyans need to take
warning on likely weather patterns
seriously.
By Henry Onyango
Who is Mr Mutanda?
I am Nelson Mutanda. I work with National Drought
Management Authority (NDMA) - an agency in the
Ministry of Devolution and Planning as a drought
early warning officer.
What does your work as Early Warning officer
involve?
I am in charge of ensuring that there is an efficient
early warning system that can trigger response and
action in case of any problem that is related to early
warning and food security in Kenya.
How is the agency handling the effect of
climate change adaptation?
The effects and dangers imposed by
climate change are already with us.
We have measures in place to handle
this. For instance, we are already
advising communities to adapt to
climate change. We do projections
and carry interventions that ensure
that communities adapt to
dangers of climate change.
We also do community
feedback every
month.
