Public Libraries welcome children from the very earliest months of life, helping parents and carers to support them as they grow and learn. Working with schools, school library services and school librarians, local and national partners, libraries provide a range of activities, programmes and initiatives which introduce, extend and refresh the library experience to children.

Regular Activities

We offer the following regular events at most of our libraries. For more information pop into your local library and pick up an activities sheet or visit www. redbridge. gov. uk / libraries
Stories, Rhymes and Songs Under 5s Babies love books so it’ s never too early to bring your child to the library. Enjoy stories and songs together with your child and meet other parents and children. These weekly events last for approximately ½ hour and are suitable for under 5s. They are free and no booking is required. See pages 46 & 48 for more details.
Chatterbooks
6-12 yrs Enjoyable reading groups for youngsters in the borough. We chat about books, play games, do quizzes and have fun together. We aim to inspire young people to read adventurously and develop confidence in expressing their opinions. The books are free and no booking is required.
Reading Buddies
5-12 yrs
Practise your reading skills with friendly volunteers. These sessions are suitable for children just beginning to read and any primary school children who need some help and encouragement with their reading. Sessions are free and no booking is required.
Homework Help Clubs
7-13 yrs Find books, computers and links to homework and study support websites. We do not provide tutoring, but at any time, in any library, staff will help you find what you need. These sessions are free and no booking is required.
Chess and Games Clubs 7-13 yrs Join these“ just for fun” clubs and spend an afternoon with other children playing your favourite board games such as chess, Snakes and Ladders, Crazy faces, Faces bingo and Ludo. These sessions are free and no booking is required.
Bookstart Bear Club
The Bookstart Bear Club is a fun and free membership reward scheme for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers that runs throughout the year. Open up an exciting world of sharing stories, books and rhymes together. Join, have fun and get rewards at Redbridge Central and Keith Axon libraries. Ask staff for details.
