DJ & VINYL ADDICT JULY 2014 Vol 2 | Page 3

Nael Spykid Barbosa started DJ’ing a few years ago. he initially began experimenting with music while lived in Germany with MP3’s on a Hercules console. But he wasn’t really digging the vibe of playing music off a computer; since h was raised listening to his mum’s soul and disco records back in the late 70’s. His first turntable was a Sony USB belt drive, which he used for about two weeks, and afterwards he decided to purchase two MK2’s, and later called it Everything Crash Sound System. He really began to get drawn to Djing over 10 years ago, with his with friends from Puerto Rico who were part of Boricuas Bestiales Fanzine (Jose Gabriel, Javier Tous, and Omar Dauhjare) used to Spin anything from Punk, Ska, reggae and Salsa in a club called Café Ceda in old San Juan. He remember they used to really kill it. For him, he’s only used to photograph the scene, because he really couldn’t afford records back then. The first record he bought was Jackie Mittoo in London. From there I continued to learn the art of DJ’ing, from collecting, crate digging, cyber digging, buying records from all over the world and spinning Boss reggae, dub, soul and early Oi!. The first time he spinned records was in Puerto Rico with DJ Johnny Bowy, and later that day he spinned at another bar with DJ Melkiades, both sub-culture kids from his Island. Currently he live in near Seattle, and he spin strictly boss reggae with a pinch of dub and soul. To find more about Nael spykid Barbosa please check https://www.facebook.com/nael.spykidbarbosa
