How often are you guys able to get together and practice?
We try and practice once a week, but due to all the crazy jobs we work we can't always stick to a
schedule. It usually averages out around once every 7-10 days though.
Where do you guys practice at?
A local studio in Nottingham called The Octave Rooms. They have a PA that can actually stand up
to our noise so we can hear Adam's vocals, ha ha.
What got you into music, and what are your influences?
For me personally it was finding a tape of AC/DC's Powerage album when I was about four years
old. That whole album electrified me from start to finish and upon hearing it I instantly knew what I
wanted to do with my life. As far as influences go, we could be here all week if we were to list
each of our own personal influences but the bands who have influenced our sound the most have
been (in no particular order) : Clutch, Kyuss, Down, Baroness, Mastodon, Black Sabbath, Led
Zeppelin.
What sacrifices have you had to make to do what you love?
Mainly sleep. When you work a job where you're often up at 5-6am and there for 12 hours, then
have a practice or a show to do it seems that sleep is the main thing that gets cut out. We've often
gone without a decent meal for a couple of days so we can afford practice or gear repair. The other main thing would be time away from loved ones. Everyone in WIDOWS except me is in a committed relationship and it's been known to cause a bit of havoc in the romance department with all
of us from time to time.
Who did you get your musical talent from?
Practice, practice, practice. Again, we could be here all week listing people and bands but if it's
got groove, attitude, and balls then you can bet it's had an effect on us at some stage in our lives.
How did you come up with the name of the band?
Adam and I grew up together in a small village where there were a lot of deaths through illness,
leaving a lot of people we knew as widows/widowers. The name is both a nod of respect to those
we've lost as well as a reference to where we both came from .
