DivKid's Month Of Modular Issue #1 October 2015 | Page 2

Hi and welcome to the first 'DivKid's Month Of Modular'. I've had ideas to get a newsletter or e-zine / magazine style thing going for some time now. I'm generally more active online than when I started my YouTube channel and this seems like a good way to expand the things I'm sharing each month. It's probably obvious I'm more than happy to chat to people as I'm spending more and more time doing so, which is great! This magazine is my way of sharing content in a more personal way each month. It'll be some of my work, some news from me, my take on 'modular news' that month, and an interview with someone in the modular scene and also a bit of content from other people I want to share that month. A quick note - everything underlined is a link, so click away!

Each month I'll share my 'module of the month' that's a bit of a blast from the past and not the current flavour of the month. For the first feature I wanted to share something that I use pretty much in every single patch. One of those modules is the Manhattan Analog CP3 mixer. It's a small module, only 4hp to be exact. Also it's really cheap assembled or even cheaper as a DIY project. After 2 or 3 o'clock on the knob turn saturation is introduced, which sounds fantastic! Conveniently I have a video overview HERE.

On the next page you'll see modular focused news and things I'd like to share but there's loads of other good stuff around the web so here's a few things that caught my attention. One of my favourite bits of content recently has been the 'WikiSinger'. Singer Joachim Mullner performs the same song in 15 different places to highlight the differing acoustic properties and natural reverbs. Click HERE for the video. It's well worth a watch for anyone into ... well ... sound in general! This follows on from the equally awesome 'WikiDrummer' which you can watch HERE.

It's always a pleasure to stumble across music related TED talks but I didn't expect to see Mark Ronson (I don't think he expected to be there himself as he says at the start) talking about sampling. It's a good 15(ish) minutes loking at how sampling transformed music. Check it out HERE.

You can follow the blog on the DivKid website - divkidmusic.com for general music / production related posts as well as modular stuff.
