Background: Dr. Thompson received his D.Eng. and B.S.E.E. from Morgan
State University in 2003 and 1997, respectively. Prior to his tenure at the
university, he worked at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt,
Maryland. At NASA, Dr. Thompson served as the PI for NASA Goddard Space
Flight Center (GSFC) SDR Technology Program from 2005 to 2009 and
designed a RF front end for a GPS receiver for Hubble Servicing Mission 2 in
2008. Dr. Thompson has over 15-years of experience in the areas of RF/
microwave engineering and communication systems.
Overall Research Goals: Dr. Thompson serves as the Co-Director of the
Center for Reverse Engineering and Assured Microelectronics (CREAM).
CREAM leads the university’s efforts in Internet of Things (IoT) Security
Research, which includes the following areas: physical-level cyber-security,
software and hardware reverse engineering, and secure embedded system design.
IoT is the next evolution of the Internet in which our society will be a ubiquitous
network of physical devices (things) ranging from smart homes, autonomous
cars, critical infrastructures, and medical devices. The goal is to establish
CREAM as a national center within the IoT space.
