Provided the tide is not too low , the dive boat takes a shortcut on the way there going through a channel that was built by the German colonial forces before the First World War .
Behind the passage to the western outer reef the course leads along the white crests over the up to 60 feet ( 20 metres ) deep reef to the buoy which marks the dive site Vertigo . This is the reef shark area and this is where the action begins from a depth of just about 30 feet ( 10 metres )!
