Yap was a chance discovery when it comes to scuba diving . Bill Acker from Texas came here in the early 80s as a member of the US Peace Corps . Looking for some after work entertainment he and his friends jumped into the sea with a few old scuba tanks – and found out that the waters around the island are populated by mantas , and quite a lot of mantas at that .
