L et ’ s be honest : How many people are able to locate Micronesia on the map at the first attempt ? Isn ‘ t that somewhere in the South Seas ? The answer to that would be both yes and no . From a purely geographical point of view , these islands are not southern enough to count as South Sea Islands . However , there is another classification , namely the cultural one . And according to that the Caroline and Mariana Islands , which are part of Micronesia , are actually part of the South Seas .
Even though Tahiti is much more remote its capital Papeete looks almost like a tropical French St . Tropèz . The capital of Yap on the other hand , a small town named Colonia , preserved its tradition and kept its neat village-like character .
