THE SPOT SOLA CORNER IS HOME OF CLEANING STATIONS FOR MANTAS
However , things look a lot different at the Sola Corner . This Thila , a type of reef with a roof typically reaching up to a depth of ten meters , does not stand out because of its coral growth . Fish are the stars here , lots of big fish .
The shallow top of this reef is home to a number of cleaning stations for manta rays . So it does not come as a surprise that the trips to the Sola Corner are so popular among divers and snorkelers likewise , who usually approach the reef in separate boats . Of course , this is not a zoo exhibit so there is no guarantee .
“ We roughly know at what time and which currents the manta rays hang out at the cleaning stations .” Patrick , the resort ’ s managing director explains . “ So it is rather exceptional if we don ’ t get to see one . Either way , there is always something going on at this diving spot . After all it seems to be the nursery for small and juvenile eagle rays , who are pretty relaxed about facing divers .” These animals usually like to hover halfway between the surface and the roof of the reef , so that snorkelers can also get a good look . This pretty much completes our excursion to this attractive alternative to the house reef .
