The other deep wreck off Pereybére is located on the edge of Confetti Bay off the island of Coin de Mire ( also known as Gunner ‘ s Coin ). The former 44 metre long Japanese fishing trawler „ D ‘ Jabeda “ was scuttled there in 1998 . The green uninhabited island about four kilometres north of Cap Malheureux is also clearly visible from the Hibiscus Hotel . It takes just 25 minutes to get there by the diving boat . There are usually two dives off Coin de Mire . The first takes place at the „ D ‘ Jabeda “ wreck , as the seabed around it goes down to 35 metres ; reason enough ( as well as for the other descents deeper than 25 metres ) to dive with Nitrox .
This allows the „ D ‘ Jabeda “ to be explored in a relaxed manner . Even if the ship has remained reasonably upright at the bottom , it is important to think carefully before entering the interior – not to say it should be avoided . One will notice that it is enough to see outside . There are many facets of sea life around the island , from large to small , and this also applies to the wreck . In the waters , no one can avoid the blue-striped snappers ; goldspot breams are anything but solitary and almost constantly present , while loners such as larger groupers and adult barracudas are also regularly seen in search of prey at the iron remains off Coin de Mire .
Predators lurking on the bottom such as stonefish and scorpionfish are also there , but their good camouflage means they have to be spotted first . Same with the flowery flounder . Even when swimming across the sandy bottom , the fish is barely recognizable ; if it is not moving at all , divers need a very good eye to spot it . Other fish make it easier . Colors and patterns like those of the lionfish , emperor butterflyfish and bannerfish are , one could almost believe , intended to attract attention . Those who love tiny animals like shrimps and nudibranchs will also find them here – even if they are basically just a mini-staffage on the wreckage that is a truly gigantic setting .
But you don ‘ t have to worry : those are also among the popular colorful jewels of the
