Dear reader ,
It would be more than just carrying owls to Athens if we were to try to introduce you to the Indian Ocean in any form whatsoever as a new diving destination to be discovered .
However ... there are still underwater areas in the Indo- Pacific that are off the beaten track . The island of Mauritius is one of them . Because the main tourist attractions there are still on land , this diving area is not overcrowded .
Unjustly on the one hand , fortunately for the scuba divers on the other . Off the coast of Mauritius , a variety of marine life can be found on the not too
deep reefs . These were not formed by corals , but are of volcanic origin from the Earth ‘ s early history .
Nevertheless , there are corals on every reef off Mauritius - including a large number of species of leather coral , and of course gorgonian fans grow in places exposed to the currents . Countless species feel at home here , as well as on the half dozen wrecks sunk as artificial reefs .
Curious ? Find out everything you need to know about the diving area in our special issue . We hope you enjoy reading it ! Your diving7seas team
