The name has a truly legendary ring to it : Mauritius is considered one of the dream destinations par excellence – and is almost always equated with a seemingly unaffordable luxury holiday . Wrongly so ! And even better : you can also go diving there . Of course the underwater world of the Indian Ocean has almost as many different facets as its countless islands .

Mauritius is certainly one of the most varied islands topside . Of volcanic origin it is located to the east of Madagascar and La Réunion , south of the equator in the southern hemisphere , where the tropical summer prevails in the European winter half-year . The best conditions for a diving holiday during our cool season – but not only then .
Of course , Mauritius , which is around 60 kilometres long and up to 45 kilometres wide , is not a coral island . It was formed by prehistoric activity , which , together with the tropical location , provided fertile soil . As a result , there is pretty much everything that nature has to offer at these latitudes , even though the original rainforest has been decimated in recent centuries .
The island has always been known for its floral splendour and not least for its many dream beaches . Although many of them are located in front of the hotels , unlike the hotel grounds themselves , they are all public property .
The preconception that Mauritius is an exclusively expensive luxury destination is as widespread as it is false . In fact , there are also many independent small hotels with attractive prices . One of these is the Hibiscus Boutique Hotel in the north in the village of Pereybére .
