Hardly anywhere in Europe are large stingrays as common as in the waters of the Canary Islands – and of course also off Corralejo
What makes El Bajon del Rio unique is its location in the middle of the channel between Corralejo and Los Lobos . The name of the site means „ lower river “ and refers to a kind of underwater riverbed that runs between Los Lobos and Corralejo . Sounds like There ‘ s a current ? Yes and no . Of course there is , and not too little of it . But you only dive just before and after the tide changes . And not just anywhere in the middle , but at a 16 metre deep passage where impressive rock formations have formed mushroom and umbrella-like natural sculptures . Those consist of ancient lava and highly compacted sandstone . Over many thousands of years , they have been eroded by waves and currents .
