and therefore we only jump at this place when
the current is incoming. Hardly a quarter of an
hour boat trip away from the island the dhoni
arrives at the spot. When in the right place,
the small group of divers jumps off with the
guide and touches down not a minute later at
the edge of the canal. While we take shelter
for the current behind small coral blocks in
the sand or some stabilize themselves with
a reef hook, the white tip, black tip and grey
reef sharks with their apparent ignorance of
the relatively strong current almost seem to
mock us. They just pretend to float in a big
bathtub.
There is no hunting behaviour to be seen.
The fish seem – like some birds in strong
winds – to have fun playing with this form
of natural force. After a while the dive guide
