Chairperson’s report to the Annual General Meeting
As Diversityworks Trust nears the end of its 6th year of operation,
we continue to change and adapt. In June, Philip and I attended a
four day retreat at Vaughan Park in Long Bay, run by Sue Davidoff
and Allan Kaplan from the Proteus Initiative in South Africa. There
we learned the art and skill of observing human and social
phenomena through the lens of natural processes, including growth
and decay, light and dark, and the many intrigues of infinity.
With this new perspective, we are able to see the simultaneous
growing and decaying of our work at Diversityworks. Some projects
like DIVINQ and Unique Sense have needed to be pruned and left to
find new growth, while others like DPSN have burgeoned with new
life, including a new season of MyFilm that started in June 2011.
We have also benefitted from unexpected fertile soils, beginning the
development of what we expect to be a highly successful exhibition,
“How Diversity Works”, which is to be held in August and September
with the support of Artstation Gallery. This project encapsulates the
three pillars of our work - diversity, creativity and social change.
Yet again our work has been generously supported by the Todd
Foundation and others, and supremely executed by our small but
diligent team. I also continue to appreciate the wisdom and
oversight of my fellow trustees.
Creating connections, networks and income sources to
develop the business of the Trust
As night falls on this year, we anticipate the increasing light of the
coming year and look forward to sharing whatever is manifest with
our growing network of partners, Peers, artists and organisations.
Work has begun reviewing our vision, mission and objectives for the
2011-12 year and beyond.
