Findings show that more than half of search consultants believe they have a role to play in advising clients to choose
a diverse shortlist that appropriately reflects the longlist they curated.
It is encouraging to see that over half of respondents felt they had a part to play in influencing their clients to be
more inclusive, despite how difficult this type of conversation might be. Trust is a significant factor here. When the
search firm or individual consultant is viewed as a trusted advisor who is knowledgeable about inclusive recruitment
practices and can help support the client’s diversity aspirations, positive influence is possible. Search consultants
should feel confident to challenge clients on their shortlist choices, particularly when they suspect unconscious bias
may be at play.
