STRATEGIC PLAN GOALS
GOAL 1
CREATE AND SUSTAIN A WELCOMING, INCLUSIVE, AND EQUITABLE CAMPUS CLIMATE
Driven by our Catholic, Mercy mission, Gwynedd Mercy University prepares students for successful careers and meaningful lives in a global society. Our ability to achieve our mission depends, in part, on creating a climate where all internal and external community members feel a sense of belonging and are supported, and all community members from diverse backgrounds have an equitable experience of Mercy hospitality. This will require broad engagement across campus with faculty, staff, and students who are interculturally competent and equity-minded, and who recognize the relevance and importance of the University’ s mission-driven values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Achieving this goal will also require actively living our GMercyU Diversity Statement, which is informed by our Catholic identity and rooted in the traditions of Sisters of Mercy.
GOAL 2
ENSURE OUR STUDENT BODY REFLECTS THE COMMUNITIES WE SERVE BY IMPLEMENTING EQUITABLE STRATEGIES FOR RECRUITMENT, RETENTION, AND PERSISTENCE, & ADVANCING GMERCYU’ S MISSION
Gwynedd Mercy University recognizes that inclusive excellence is central to GMercyU’ s mission to develop students for successful careers and meaningful lives in a global society. Therefore, our student body must reflect the larger community we serve, and we must commit to creating strategies that center on creating equitable educational experiences that prioritize equitable strategies for recruitment, retention, and persistence of our students & advances GMercyU mission.
GOAL 3
RECRUIT AND RETAIN FACULTY AND STAFF THROUGH EQUITABLE RECRUITMENT, RETENTION, AND ADVANCEMENT PRACTICES TO ENRICH STUDENT LEARNING AND UPHOLD GMERCYU’ S MISSION
Inclusive excellence asks our institution to recognize the need for broader diversity within our staff and faculty, highlighting the value that a more diverse workforce will have on the social, intellectual, and spiritual development of all students as well as enhance creativity, productivity, and innovation for effectively-led diverse work teams and academic departments. To achieve this, we strive for more efficient and consistent methods of recruitment, hiring, mentoring, retaining, promoting, and advancing all faculty and staff.
GOAL 4
INFUSE INCLUSIVE EXCELLENCE INTO OUR CURRICULAR AND COCURRICULAR EXPERIENCES BY CREATING EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES THAT PREPARE STUDENTS TO LIVE OUR CORE VALUES AND LIVE MEANINGFUL LIVES ROOTED IN THE MERCY TRADITION
The objectives in this section build upon the commitment our institution has made to provide learning environments and experiences that will enhance student capacity to work effectively towards advancing social justice in a diverse world. Students will develop an understanding of historic and contemporary challenges related to social justice, starting with the Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy( Immigration, Women, Earth, Anti-Racism, and Non-Violence) that will lead them towards living meaningful lives of radical Mercy. These objectives will encourage innovation that infuse inclusive excellence into teaching and promote equitable environments for learning with a more inclusive curriculum, programing, and pedagogies, intentionally integrating it throughout the entire student experience.
