A CHALLENGE TO THE COMMUNITY
As a Catholic , Mercy institution , the concepts of diversity , equity , and inclusion are inextricably linked to our Core Values of Integrity in Word and Deed , Respect for the Dignity of Each Person , Service to Society , and Social Justice in a Diverse World .
These values inspire and obligate us to create a culture of “ inclusive excellence ” on campus . The concept of inclusive excellence recognizes that to successfully advance our mission , we must value , engage , and include the rich diversity of all members of our community – students , faculty , staff , alumni , and friends of the University .
This new Diversity , Equity & Inclusion Strategic Plan outlines the goals , objectives , and strategies that will help us move ever closer toward inclusive excellence . The plan spans University-wide goals and processes , requiring the collaboration of all departments on campus . some while underserving others . This work can be uncomfortable at times , but educators often remind their students that growth is borne from discomfort . With a spirit of growth in mind , let ’ s continue working together toward a more equitable , inclusive environment at GMercyU , one that truly supports our mission in preparing students for successful careers and meaningful lives in a global society .
I challenge every member of our community to embrace this critical work by welcoming the opportunity to understand each other more deeply , to more fully live our Mercy mission , and to better serve our students and each other by advancing diversity , equity , and inclusion at Gwynedd Mercy University .
