SCUBA

NITROX

Nitrox is nitrogen mixed with oxygen . It is also known as enriched air due to the increased oxygen content in it . This specific component sets it apart from other common diving gases . Both recreational and technical divers use this gas to breathe . In recreational diving , this mixture helps you absorb less nitrogen because it contains more oxygen . Nitrox mixtures usually contain more than 21 % oxygen , but in no case should they exceed 40 %. Benefits of Nitrox Longer Scuba Time Divers who use Nitrox absorb less nitrogen , making them stay underwater for longer . They are also less likely to have hypotension disease . Less Fatigue This feature hasn ' t been confirmed yet , but some feel less tired . Longer Dives Absorbing less nitrogen in your first dive with Nitrox gives you more frequent dive times . Shorter Surface Intervals Nitrox breathing also gives you shorter surface intervals . Disadvantage of Enriched Air Not Suitable for Depths to avoid oxygen poisoning , depending on the percentage of oxygen in the cylinder Oxygen Poisoning Increasing oxygen concentration can cause oxygen poisoning . Cost There is often an additional cost when using an enriched air tank .
