Scientific diving is the use of underwater diving techniques by scientists to perform underwater work with the goal of scientific knowledge. The definition of scientific diving varies by specialty. Scientific divers are usually qualified scientists first and divers second, who use diving equipment and techniques as a way to get to their field work site. The capabilities and powers accorded to scientists equipped with diving changed marine science in general, marine biology and marine chemistry in particular. Underwater archeology and geology are other examples of science pursued underwater. 22 8th ISSUE DIVENTURES MAGAZINE
