SCUBA
The Discover Scuba Diving Program is a
quick introduction to the underwater
world without any formal qualifications.
You literally try before diving. However,
there are a few things you need to know
before you take a dive; You must be at
least 8 years old, due to lung development.
Younger children are not suitable to take
part in a dive because their bodies have
not developed enough yet to handle the
stresses and complications of diving, so
wait until they are a little older. It would
definitely also be helpful if you knew how
to swim beforehand, as you might imagine
scuba diving involves a bit of swimming!
There will also be a self-assessment
medical questionnaire to make sure you
are fit and healthy enough to go scuba
diving. We can’t talk while we are
underwater, so we’re using hand signals
to communicate but your coach will show
you these signals before you enter the
water. I am afraid you will have a quick
lesson in physics and biology at first. This
is so that you understand the factors that
will go in when you are underwater and
why you should take care of them to keep
you safe and healthy while diving. Also
when you dive under the surface, due to
pressure, you need to balance your ears
just as you would on a plane. It will show
you how to do this, but this is something
you should keep in mind if you have
problems with ear pressure. Your mask
might get a little wet on the inside but
don't worry, you can remove the water
from your mask without coming out onto
the surface.
