Tools to Jump Start Your Dreams in 2018 by Erica Murray
Every time I listen to the Mary Mary song,” Get Up,” I am inspired to take the commitment to realizing my dreams, whether it is spiritual, physical, career, family, or financial, to a higher level. However, sometimes my brain gets stuck on the how’ s to accomplish my ideas, like how do I do that, how do I do this, how in the world is that going to happen, or, better yet, how do I simply get started. Most of you reading this article have a toolbox somewhere in your home that contains tools to repair, tighten-up, and create new projects. Divas and Swaggers alike, for the project of life, listed below are tools that will help you jump start your dreams in 2018.
What are you afraid of? Don’ t you know What you’ re made of?
One of God’ s Greatest creations Take this invitation now Get up
‘ Cause you can’ t stop … If you wanna get there Clocks don’ t stop and Time won’ t wait
Tool # 1 – The Creation Box
There are many variations of the creation box. Personalize the box to fit your personality. After all, it’ s what goes in the creation box that will change your life.
Start with purchasing or creating an attractive looking box. You can purchase a box from Michael’ s Crafts, JoAnn Fabrics, Lowe’ s, you get the idea. I’ ve gotten both of my boxes from the Marshall’ s Home Store. One is beaded in red, the other is white. Both are beautiful boxes that resonate with me. Buy or create something that resonates with you.
Next, write on the inside of the box“ Everything in this box, or something better, already exists. Thank you God.”
Then, gather magazines, books, and catalogs. Cut out pictures, symbols, and words that symbolize what you desire to do, be, or have in your life. Feel free to write down your desires and place those in the box. Be careful not to place anything in the box that you have resistance to. Only place those things in the box that, in a perfect world, you would do, be, or have in your life. Do not judge whether what you desire is realistic. Do not judge anything. Simply cut out and place your desires into the creation box and watch your desires become part of your reality. The universe will align people, place and resources into your path that will assist you. You’ ll be amazed by the results!
Tool # 2 – The Vision Board
The vision board is similar to the creation box. The biggest distinction is that the purpose of the vision board is to help you visualize your desires. Visualization is very powerful and changes lives because eventually you move from visualizing your dreams, to feeling your dreams, to eventually watching your dreams actualized.
Start with purchasing a large piece of cardboard that you can buy from Staples or Office Depot. Next, gather magazines, books and brochures. Clip out pictures, symbols, and words that symbolize what you desire to do, be, or have in your life. Organize your desires and place like clippings together. For instance, place clippings for Family together, Career together, Well-Being together, you get the point. Glue or tape your clippings to the cardboard. Get as creative as you’ d like. Remember, this is your vision board. Be careful not to place words on the vision board that create what you don’ t want. For instance, instead of placing‘ debt free’ on your board, place‘ financial freedom’. If you place debt free, you’ ll always have debt that you desire to be free from.
Once you’ ve completed your board, place it in a conspicuous space that allows you to look at and feel what’ s on your vision board daily. Trust and have faith in your desires and watch God do the rest. The results are incredible!
Tool # 3 – The Circle of Inspiration
I refer to this last tool as the Circle of Inspiration. It differs from the creation box and the vision board in that it provides the catalyst for designing these creations. This is a great tool to use if you’ re unsure of what you want to achieve. The Circle of Inspiration originates from indigenous traditions. The premise is to surround yourself with a circle of friends that will help you resolve internal struggles and open the space for you to answer your own questions. Start with gathering together four to six friends. Be selective to only choose those persons that are supportive and encouraging to your aspirations. Next, speak your desire to the group. For instance,“ I desire a career change and need help with discovering my next steps.” Each person in the group will take turns asking questions that will assist you with your desire. By the end of the exercise, you should be clear on your next steps and have actions assigned that move you forward with your desire. One of those actions should be creating a creation box or vision board!
All of the tools listed above have one thing in common – intention. It’ s been said before that, wherever we place intent, will have our attention. In 2010, place your attention on your intentions, and watch your dreams become reality. Happy Creating!
