I ’ m Not Perfect But I think I ’ m Pretty Great
My name is Chelsea Victoria Corprew , And here ’ s what I want to say to kids today . Get off your phones and pay attention ! The world needs you . Wait my bad , the name of this poem is “ I ' m not Perfect but I think I ' m Pretty Great ”. My toes are too big . My ears are too small . I don ' t have what everyone else has . I ' m not pretty . I ' m not popular . I ’ m weird . I ’ m annoying . Nobody likes me . Nobody , nobody ! I ' m a failure . I can ' t do anything right . ( take a breath ) Do you notice the problem ? Society has such a big impact on how we see ourselves — Making us focus on our imperfections . I ' m not just talking about young black girls , Or older ones or kids my age . I ’ m talking about everyone ! So I have accepted my imperfections . I stopped saying things like , “ I can ’ t ” and “ I ’ m a failure ”, and all those things . I ' m here to say we don ' t have to be perfect . Accept the weirdness , the craziness , And we ' ll live with it . I don ' t say that to be mean . But at the end of the day , When we rest our heads to dream about sweet things , We can ' t just wake up and All our imperfections go away . So I ' m just saying , I may be weird or different , But I accept it . I use these things to make me a better person .
