Being engaged opens pathway to success
We know as business leaders, Employee engagement is
increasingly being recognized as a major driver of
business performance, revealing important information
about our organization’s health and future prospects. An
engaged person is more involved, produces ideas, and is
willing to own their role as part of the bigger company
vision and structure. Similarly as paying members of
NUCA of Florida and your local chapter, you should
recognize the value of being engaged in our great
association.
I would like to share a few stories from the 20% of our membership that are actively engaged and know how it has opened pathways to success for them.
In 1987 while Scott Johnson was attending a four day preparatory class for his underground utility contractor’s license, he met Mr. Bill Frost with Florida Road Boring (Central Florida Utility Contractors Association). Scott said “He was both a knowledgeable and interesting gentleman and after four days, we were both friends and business associates”. From that day on, Florida Road Boring became Johnson-Davis’ “go to” boring subcontractor. Coming from North Central Florida to Southeast Florida was a “geographic challenge”, so he trained one of Johnson-Davis’ foreman with the “tricks” of the road boring business. After six months with Bill, Johnson-Davis’ foreman Bobby Wakefield was confident enough to start his own company of which members of the Johnson family were involved with for 10 plus years. Fast forward to 2015, Mr. Bill Frost has sadly past away; Wakefield Road Boring is a NUCA member from South Florida and major sponsor of the ASJ Bass Tournament. Johnson-Davis Family lost a foreman, but gained a valuable subcontractor!
