MEGAN MASTERSON: SCHOLARSHIP WINNER SPOTLIGHT
This year a second high
school student, Megan
Masterson will be awarded
the Andrew Scott Johnson
Memorial Scholarship
Foundation Distinguished
Recipient Award of $7500.
A varsity volleyball player
for the past four years,
Megan recently graduated
from William T. Dwyer
High School in Jupiter,
Florida, with a cumulative
GPA of 3.667 and enrolled
in the Florida State
University (Go ‘Noles!) this
summer to jump-start her
academic college career.
Her proud parents are
Devon Masterson, patient
coordinator at Esticia,
and Thomas Masterson,
civil engineer at Contech
Engineering Solutions.
Megan is pursuing a
degree in Exercise
Science, and as a PreMed student, plans attend
medical school. Her
academic honors include
AP Scholars Award and
Science Endorsement
Diploma. Megan is also
a member of Spanish
National Honor Society,
serving as Secretary (20142016); National English
Honor Society (2014-1016);
and National Honor Society
(2015-2016). For three
years, Megan held the role
of Secretary for Students
Against Melanoma Club
for which she received
special recognition and
was a member of Key Club
(2014-2016). Additionally,
she also was involved for
two years with IB Student
Union and received the
Panther of the Week
award.
Not surprisingly, professors
describe Megan as
academically-talented,
incredibly hard-working,
energetic, outgoing,
mature, capable, focused,
a leader among her
peers, and enjoyable to
have in class. Megan’s
community and civic
service is exemplary and
involves close to 200
hours volunteering at
the Loggerhead Marine
Life Center, working
with the camp and
conducting beach cleanups. Furthermore, Megan
devoted 500 hours during
a three-year period as
assistant coach to the
Boys’ Volleyball Team.
Likewise, Megan donated
50 hours to extra projects
with Students Against
Melanoma Club.
In addition to excelling
academically, Megan
managed to balance her
studies while competing
in Varsity Volleyball for
four years, acting as Team
Captain her junior and
senior years. She received
the Most Valuable Player of
the Year Award her senior
year and was recognized
in the Palm Beach Post as
first and second-team AllConference, her Senior and
Junior year respectively.
Not one to sit idle, Megan
worked part-time as a
sales associate for Hollister
her senior year and
provided childcare during
her freshman, sophomore
and junior years. When not
studying, working or on the
volleyball court, Megan
can be found playing
beach volleyball, visiting
local animal shelters, such
as Furry Friends in Jupiter,
and shadowing a plastic
surgeon weekly to gain
knowledge.
