Minimium Wage Update
The minimum wage for Florida workers will increase to $8.25 on Jan. 1,
up from this year’s minimum of $8.10 an hour.
Florida Constitution Revision Commission
The Florida Constitution Revision Commission met in Tallahassee recently and
reviewed several public proposals. Among them was a proposal that would create
a new way to sue individuals and businesses based on esthetic environmental
rights (Public Proposal 23). This proposal would contribute to Florida's negative
reputation as a "judicial hellhole" and further plummet the state's
bottom-five legal climate ranking.
Basically, CRC 23 creates a new cause of action for anyone to sue to enforce
environmental “rights.” These ambiguous “rights” include “clean air and water,
control of pollution, and conservation of natural, scenic, historic and
aesthetic values of the environment.
