ANDREW SCOTT JOHnSON MEMORIAL BASS TOURNAMENT

On March 10-12 , more than 100 anglers gathered in Okeechobee to support the Andrew Scott Johnson Memorial Scholarship Bass Tournament and fish for the largest bass in hopes of bragging rights for the next year . On Thursday evening , anglers gathered for cocktails and a scrumptious BBQ dinner as part of the Captain ’ s Meeting as NUCA of Florida President and tournament chair , Clark Cryer ( Johnson Davis ) emceed the Calcutta and Todd Kersey , Bass Online , explained the rules to the teams for the guided and unguided entries . After enjoying coffee and Dunkin ’ doughnuts , the anglers shoved offshore bright and early Friday morning and later weighed-in their catch at the Scott C . Driver Park , enjoying a cold brew while awaiting other teams . Friday night ’ s fare included “ the best ever ” fried chicken with all the sides and plenty of adult beverages to enhance the fish tales . Saturday ’ s fishing was more challenging as the rainy weather caused some anglers to call it quits a bit earlier . In the end , the anglers highlighted below took home the pride and prizes for their catch . Many thanks to our amazing , generous sponsors that coupled with tournament proceeds will yield many more scholarships for deserving students . All sponsors at the $ 500 level and above are eligible for their employees and immediate family relatives to apply for a scholarship . Last year , we awarded $ 51,500 in scholarships to a total of 20 deserving students and our goal is to match or exceed this year .
