New Census Data : Florida Added Nearly 3 Million People in 2010s

Florida ’ s population grew from about 18.8 million people to 21.5 million over the decade that ended in 2020 , an increase of 14.6 %, according to new data from the Census released on Thursday . A majority of Florida counties saw their populations increase - unlike the nation as a whole , in which more than half of counties saw shrinking population over the decade . Nationally , this Census was notable for showing a decline in the non-Hispanic white population , the first such drop in U . S . history . That population decreased by 2.6 % over the 10-year period . At the same time , the number of people who identify as white plus another race grew by about 300 %.
