OSHA’s
Summer Heat
Safety
Campaign
in Full Swing
via Cleaning & Maintenance
Management (06/16)
The U.S. Occupational Safety and
Health Administration (OSHA) unveiled
its Summer Heat Safety Campaign,
which aims to remind those working
outside to take precautions. Employers
must keep workplaces free from
known safety hazards, including
excessive heat in the summer mo nths.
The program calls for providing
workers with water, rest, and shade;
allowing new or returning workers to
gradually increase workloads and take
more frequent breaks as they build
a tolerance for working in the heat;
planning for emergencies; training
workers on emergency prevention; and
monitoring workers for signs of illness.
OSHA also conducted a one-hour
Safety Stand-Down on heat-related
illnesses at workplaces in eight states.
