President ’ s Message
We are now in the thick of the 2023 Florida State Legislative Session . With a heavy red wave felt all over Florida and a Governor looking to make an impact , I expect things to move quickly . Republicans won a 28-12 majority in the Senate and a 85-35 majority in the House . As you are reading this the sausage is being made and our expert lobbyist Kari Hebrank is keeping us abreast and fighting for the best interests of NUCA of Florida . There are many bills that are in process that will affect our industry . While I understand our focus as contractors is generally on our work , the task at hand , and the issues right in front of us , if we as an industry don ’ t pay attention to what is happening in Tallahassee we risk making our daily operations more difficult and less successful . This is the time to pay attention to what we at NUCA of Florida have as the responsibility to our members-- providing the information regarding what bills are out there that will impact our industry and how they impact us . We encourage , better yet , we need your feedback . Session is generally not the time you formulate a plan to enact legislation to benefit our industry . Session is Game Time ! Session is when we must be most focused and knowledgeable on the bills that will affect our industry . We need to be deliberative and convincing to these lawmakers that our industry interests are for the betterment of Florida and the way we do business . Stay vigilant , our industry depends on it . With the timing of the Ditchmen , I hope I saw many of you up in Tallahassee at Legislative Days . If not , I hope you are continuing to fight for our industry as we at NUCA of Florida will do until session ends on May 5th . And please remember , it ’ s never too early to start planning for the 2024 Session .
