Motivation comes from wanting to help change things for the better . I love our profession , and I would hope that our youth will continue to see dentistry as the wonderful career it is , far into the future . Health care has changed in this country . Many physicians are not encouraging their children to pursue a career in medicine . I would hope dentistry can transcend this trend . Innovation is key in our delivery models . Our young dentists will find which model is right for them . My goal is to welcome all dentists from all delivery models to our societies . We can then work together to make our PDA really reflect the new demographic of dentistry . PDA can help identify and resolve salient issues for all dentists , not just those in private practice .
Other goals within organized dentistry are to retain and acquire new members . I want to help our profession and our organization succeed . Many of us in the profession are typically Type A personalities , so I definitely have a lot of goals both personally and professionally , but in terms of our organization , I would really like to see solid growth of our membership . In terms of my affiliation with the GRC , PADPAC , and ADPAC , my goal is to create real change in the legislature in terms of third-party payor issues and credentialing .
My advice to my colleagues regarding joining organized dentistry is , “ JUST DO IT !” We can achieve more by working together as a collaborative unit than we can do on our own . The camaraderie of the group is more than what anyone would expect , and that is worth the dues alone . The insurance discounts are tremendous and continuing education offerings are top notch . It ’ s our profession and it takes all of us together to help craft the face and direction of our profession for future generations . I feel it is our responsibility as a dental health care provider to be part of the organization .
Fourth District Dr . Nicholas Seigel This past year I had the honor of being a delegate for the Pennsylvania Dental Association at the ADA meeting in Houston . Having graduated from dental school in 2021 , I am fairly new to organized dentistry and this was the first ADA House of Delegates meeting I have attended . It was a unique and special experience to witness firsthand the various delegations from across the country weigh in on issues protecting the best interests of dentists , their patients , and the profession . This experience displayed to me the importance of every level of organized dentistry , from regional to national .
I first got involved with organized dentistry by joining the American Student Dental Association when I was in dental school at the University of Pennsylvania . I am motivated by protecting the best interests of our patients and the dentists who provide them care .
My main goals are dental insurance reform and growing PDA membership .
I would tell my colleagues to give it a try ! Attend a meeting . It is always a good time to advocate for fellow dentists and the profession .
