What are you most thankful for this year? I’m thankful for so many things. So many people. I’m thankful for my best friend and my fandom friends — friends I met through fandom, very very real friends — and the blogging community and all the opportunities it’s afforded me. I’m thankful for my bravery in April, for taking the plunge and coming to London with 800€ and no clue if I’d make it beyond the first week. I’m thankful for everyone who’s talked me down from a ledge this year when I was having a bad time. I’m thankful for my landlady, this wonderful woman from Finland who agreed to take weekly payments with no deposit and signed a lease for a year in my favorite part of the city. I’m thankful for everyone in my family who chipped in when I had financial troubles, and the friends who did as well. I’m thankful for my clients, for everyone who’s trusted me to make their online space one they’d love to inhabit — some before I had much to show other than my confidence that I could do it. I’m thankful for the comforts I’ve found, even if they mean Starbucks is my third biggest expense after rent and groceries at the moment. And I’m thankful for the fact that when I look back at last year, I think, “holy crap,” and tear up. I never thought I’d make this move. I never thought it would stick. I’m still scared it’s going to fall through. But I’m here, and it’s on me. I did this. That’s mindblowing. 18
